At the end of the XXI Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, the Ukrainian team won only 11 medals: two gold medals, five silver medals and four bronze medals. This is the worst result in the history of the participation of the Ukrainian national team in the Olympics and the number of medals and their quality.
But the Ukrainian Paralympic team, ranked third in the medal standings of the XV Summer Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The Ukrainian Paralympians won 117 medals, of which 41 were gold medals, 37 were silver medals and 39 were bronze medals. Athletes set 22 world records, 32 Paralympic records and 54 European Paralympic sports records.
In total, at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, a record number of sets of medals was played - 306 and the participation of a record number of countries - 207!
10/05/16 President of Ukraine presented high state awards, orders to the best athletes,
winners of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio.
The President awarded 1 Olympic athlete the Order of Princess Olga of the II degree, 1 athlete with the Order of Merit of the II degree and 6 athletes with the Order of Merit of the III degree. Also, the head of state awarded 5 Paralympic athletes with the Order of Merit of the II degree and 6 - III degree, 1 athlete with the Order of Courage of the II degree and 2 athletes with the Order of Courage of the III degree, and 2 athletes with the Order of Princess Olga III degree.
The head of state highlighted the Ukrainian Paralympians: swimmers, debutants of the games of Maxim Krypak, who received 5 gold medals and 3 silver medals; Elizaveta Mereshko, who has 4 gold medals and 1 bronze medal in the piggy bank and the best result among women; Gennady Boyko, who won 2 gold medals and became a champion ...
